Forest Bathing is a complete renovation and extension of a South Melbourne heritage terrace house.
The idea of Forest Bathing is derived from the long held practice in Japan of taking time to unwind and connect with nature. “shinrin-yoku” literally meaning “forest” and “bath”.
“Forest Bathing” introduced into this inner city context through the combined use of vertical green screens and negotiating sunlight and shadow with the neighbouring properties.
Internally, materiality/finishes shift accordingly to reflect the light timber, greys, greens & pinks of Australian native forests. The lightness of the natural colours open up the kitchen, dining & living areas and connects to the plunge pool and outdoor experience.
